![]() ![]() Thats another reason I have moved to Ireal books but I'll let you know how Midi 3 performs. I understand you can get a band in the box app for IOS but it's only for the windows version of band in the box. I also use band in a box and I find it a bit clunky and the basic sounds sound basic to tell the truth also the cost is a bit over the top. I just got my new ipad and I love ireal books on it and i think they have improved it over the early version. I still have an early version on my 1st Gen itouch. I do agree it's a pain to find songs on the forum but I also like to point out that the earlier versions had a ton of standards loaded but as I understand due to copyright issues they had to remove them from the software. One of the great strong points of ireal books is for practicing you can create your own changes for phrasing and practicing scales over ect, also they have a great editing and song creating software. I'll check out Midi 3 in the flesh later on but from the looks of it it only offers playback of tunes not editing and creating your own tunes. & the Midi 3.0 app is way, way cheaper then the iReal book. Not to mention you can download midis from anywhere on the web,ĭirectly to the app from your e-mail attachments. Plus you can isolate any track in the re-mix section.Įven change instruments from which they have a bunch of 'em to choose from. Plus many more midis from a lot of different genres already in their files,Īll ready to go with full arrangements including intro, fills into regions & endings. (which is great if you already own a real book). Not only has most of the standards from the real book in tact for free & then have to join the forum in order to access tunes. Then arrange them to be a bit longer then just once or twice through the song.īut all only after you purchased the styles, The real iReal book rip off is you have to download any of the styles & PAY for them too.īefore you can play along with the app. Įspecially compared with some of the other apps which are capable of doing basically the same thing. ![]() Not to mention, it's somewhat on the expensive side. The 'styles' offered are extremely limited. I noticed that the Demo 3 track for the Boogaloo style is called "Side Winder"(guess what is supposed to sound like) and will try to use some of the same chord types and fills that it does (mainly 7(13) and some m7(9) chords).Īt this stage I can't really see what the App is for, but maybe that is because I am already familiar with the much more expensive and capable Band in a Box.Downloaded the iReal book and found out that though it's great to have all the real book tunes with the charts. It doesn't seem to be as flexible as BiaB in that regard and I haven't detected it using any substitutions. The Booglaoo style is OK but because the chords I want to use are fairly straightforward they probably don't suit the strengths of this App and the resulting loops are very repetitive. Initially I found it quite slow to build up a track but that is getting quicker as I get more familiar with the layout and functionality. It is usable on the small screen size but I am finding the same sort of issues that described. I downloaded Jazz Volume 2 onto my iPhone and have been playing around with it. If looking to develop improvisation skills or work with professionals who create music then wikiloops tracks can potentially give you that experience. Playing known tunes is OK, if that's where you want to wind up. Up to you if you post your rendition or not. Instead pick a category/genre and find a track you like. Don't treat this section like most forum threads by just going to the last track. ![]() It can be made simple by listening over and over, or you can challenge yourself to play along at the first hearing (real time advanced improv.) There's around 200 tracks there with more to come if people like/use them. You have the opportunity to be creative by hearing, playing and anticipating through the changes or modal backings. It's about being ORIGINAL and not just another copier. The challenge is to NOT have a known tune and the opportunity to fit your interpretation (melodic or otherwise) on to the backing. These are all originals categorized into genres with an example sax track and then the same without the sax for you to give a shot. For those who are a bit more adventurous and DON'T wish to play standards the Cafe (this site) has a section under "your sound clips" called "Wikiloops Backing Tracks". ![]()
